How I work estate sale purchases

Just wanted to share how I purchase and resell my vintage jewelry via estate sales. Today I bought a vintage lot about 100 pieces. here are some images of what I got!

Now since I bought the entire lot she gave me and exceptional deal roughly comes out to 20 cents per item. Sadly I can't use every single item so I sift through and only keep the items tat are resell-able in my Etsy shop leaveing me about 45 pieces for later.

I than take what is left over and make 2 LOTS to sell on Ebay to quickly get my investment back

Lot 1 is some brooches and a few rings that might be missing stones or wouldn't fetch a worthy price on Etsy but there are many people who upcycle these items into their own works of art so selling it on Ebay it will sell fast and I can get a majority of my initial investment back. you can view this LOT HERE
LOT 2 is a mixture of bracelets and necklaces and a few other things. This lot can be SEEN HERE!

Now if both lots sell at the starting price i will make a majority of my investment back leaving what I sell on Etsy as pure profit. If they sell for the Buy it now price I will already be ahead of the game.

Being able to sell of a chunk of a LOT helps to quickly recuperate the investment money so I can go to the next estate sale and get more. This LOT is a small example of what can be done buying through Estate or Garage sales. But by selling off these items and getting my initial funds back I can also keep my prices more reasonable in my Etsy shop and hopefully sell things faster!

Hope to see you out and about at the Estate sales, I know I am hitting up a few more tomorrow!!

Happy Hunting!!!

Bill

  5. Very interesting Bill. You must have quite an eye to be able to buy a box lot and see that there are gems that will sell on Etsy. Nice!

  8. Great article, Bill. I do the same thing you do. I keep a large zip lock bag on the floor next to my work table. I throw pieces in that bag as I sift thru Lots that I've bought. When the bag becomes full, that's when I separate it into Lots & sell them eBay, too. If the pieces in a lot are nice enough, tho (LOL), I'll sell it on Etsy instead.
